Meet Jill Wood: Listening First. Looking Out for You.

From a military move to finding home on the Emerald Coast—and helping others do the same.

If you’d told me years ago that a military move would bring me to Florida and I’d end up calling the Emerald Coast home, I probably would’ve asked you how soon we could leave.

I grew up in the rainy Pacific Northwest. So when my husband, Gabe, and I PCS’d to Fort Walton Beach in 2008 during his Air Force career, I remember thinking we’d landed in paradise.

The sunshine. The beaches. The beautiful water. What’s not to love?

What started as a military assignment turned into something much bigger. We made a life here, and nearly two decades later, I still feel pretty lucky to call this place home.

But that’s only part of my story.

Before Real Estate, I Learned How to Listen

Before I became a REALTOR®, I worked in social work.

And while those might seem like two completely different careers, I’ve found they have something very important in common: people need to know someone is actually listening to them.

Not waiting for their turn to talk. Not assuming they already know the answer.

Really listening.

When someone calls me about buying or selling a home, I don’t start with a sales pitch. I want to know what’s going on.

Are you excited? Nervous? Working against a deadline? Trying to figure out what makes the most sense for your family?

Sometimes people know exactly what they want. Other times, they just know something needs to change.

Either way, we start there.

I’ve always believed that understanding the person is just as important as understanding the property.

I’ve Been on the Other Side of a Military Move

Having experienced a PCS move myself, I understand how much can happen at once.

You’re trying to figure out where you’re going to live, what the area is like, how far you’ll be from work, and how to make everything happen on a timeline that isn’t always yours to control.

And sometimes you’re doing all of that from another state.

Military families make up a large part of my business, and I’m grateful for the trust they place in me.

I regularly work with families relocating to and from Eglin Air Force Base, Hurlburt Field, Duke Field, and the 7th Special Forces Group. I’m also a Military Relocation Professional and Florida Military Specialist, with extensive experience helping buyers navigate VA financing.

But the certifications aren’t the most important part of what I bring to those conversations.

It’s understanding that there’s a real family behind every set of orders.

There are questions to answer, decisions to make, and sometimes a whole lot of moving pieces to coordinate.

And when you’re not physically here to handle everything yourself, you need someone who will be honest with you about what they’re seeing and keep you informed.

That’s something I take very seriously.

More Than 500 Transactions. And a Lot of Relationships.

I became a licensed REALTOR® in 2013, and since then, I’ve helped buyers and sellers through more than 500 real estate transactions representing over $151 million in sales volume.

I’ve worked with first-time buyers, growing families, sellers preparing for their next chapter, military households, investors, and people who just needed a fresh start.

Some transactions go exactly as planned.

Others? Well, let’s just say real estate has a way of keeping things interesting.

Experience helps you recognize potential problems before they become bigger ones. It helps you know which questions to ask, what details deserve attention, and when it’s time to have a straightforward conversation.

And believe me, I’m not afraid of those conversations.

But here’s a number that means even more to me than the sales volume: approximately 85% of my business comes from repeat clients and referrals.

That tells me people felt comfortable enough with their experience to come back—or to trust me with someone they care about.

I don’t take that lightly.

I’ll Tell You What I Think. And I’ll Tell You Why.

If you’re selling a home, I want you to understand how we’re pricing it, who we’re trying to reach, what we can do to prepare it, and how we’ll respond if the market tells us something different than we expected.

If you’re buying, I want to understand your priorities before we start looking at houses.

And if I see something that concerns me, I’m going to say so.

Not because I want to make your decisions for you. Quite the opposite.

I want you to have the information you need to make those decisions confidently.

That might mean talking through inspection findings, reconsidering a listing strategy, or explaining why a particular house might not be the best fit.

I’m pretty straightforward. I believe you deserve honest answers, even when the conversation isn’t the easiest one.

And you can ask me questions. Lots of questions.

Seriously.

I’d much rather explain something five different ways than have you walk away unsure about a decision you’re making.

There’s More to Life Than Real Estate

As much as I enjoy what I do, real estate isn’t my whole world.

Gabe and I love the life we’ve built here on the Emerald Coast, and our German Shepherds are a pretty important part of the family.

If you’re a dog person, we’ll probably have plenty to talk about.

And if you know German Shepherds, you know they have personalities of their own!

I love that life here gives us the opportunity to enjoy the coast, spend time together, and appreciate the place that first felt like paradise when we arrived.

I also think having a life outside of real estate helps me remember something important: the house is only part of the story.

What really matters is the life people are building around it.

What You Can Expect From Me

I’m proud to be part of ERA American Real Estate, where I’ve been recognized as a Top Ten Agent every year since joining the company in 2019.

I’m grateful for the professional recognition I’ve received, but what matters most to me is the experience people have when they work with me.

I want you to feel comfortable asking questions.

I want you to know I’ll tell you the truth.

I want you to understand what’s happening, whether you’re sitting across the table from me in Fort Walton Beach or calling from another state.

And I want you to feel confident that someone is paying attention to the details and looking out for your interests.

That’s also why I created In Good Hands.

It’s a place to share what I’ve learned, answer questions, and help you think through the decisions that come with buying, selling, and relocating along the Emerald Coast.

You don’t have to have everything figured out before we talk.

That’s what the conversation is for.

Whatever your next move looks like, you’re in good hands.
